Spring/Summer Recap —
Las Vegas, The Hague and Steamboat Springs, Colorado

chuthis. had a full and exciting Spring/Summer Season! First, we were home in Las Vegas for a theater residency at West Las Vegas Library Theater, where we brought back two works - Smile Masking and paper cuts in an empty bag. A huge thank you to the Las Vegas/Clark County Library District for making this possible! We always enjoy our time in this theater.

Then, we traveled to Den Haag, Netherlands, where we participated in Shortcuts XL, a festival co-produced by Nederlands Dans Theater and Korzo Theater. The company rehearsed and prepared for 10 days at NDT studios, where we were able to work with Lighting Designer Tom Visser on the design for paper cuts in an empty bag. Our time in Holland culminated in one incredible performance at Zuiderstrandtheater, complete with a standing ovation. Needless to say, this was our most memorable performance to date. Thank you to everyone at NDT & Korzo, Tom Visser,  and Roger Van der Poel for making our time in Holland both remarkable and successful!

Our final chuthis. event of the season was a two-week residency at Perry-Mansfield Performing Arts School & Camp in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. In 2008, Peter was invited to P-M by Linda Kent, former Director of Dance, to take part in what was then called the New Works Festival. Peter saw this as a perfect opportunity to begin the dance company he had been dreaming about for  many years, and thus, chuthis. was formed! The original members of chuthis., Jillian Chu, Kevin Tookey, Stacey Tookey, & Cindy Salgado, were joined by university students (including current chuthis. member Jenni Berthelot) to perform a full evening of Peter's work.

It was an honor to be asked back 10 years later by Co-Directors of Dance, Tammy Dyke-Compton & Christopher Compton. The company premiered a brand-new work, Four Yous, adapted from a work entitled Two Yous, which was originally created for Nashville's New Dialect. We also performed three other works alongside the 25 University Students attending the program. Peter taught daily class to the students, and was assisted by Jenni Berthelot in setting his work Floating After Times, and also created an outside installation on the P-M dancers. A new piece for the college dancers, created by Chris Compton, rounded out the evening. We are so grateful that we were given these two weeks together; it is rare that American dance companies have the opportunity to live, work, and create together in nature. We left feeling very inspired and fulfilled! Thank you deeply to Toni Quick, Tammy & Chris Compton, the board of P-M, and all the incredible staff at camp for making our stay unforgettable!

We would like to thank the many donors who gave money to support the events of this season—we could not have done it without you! We are extremely grateful for your support.
Our final company event of the season is chuthis. Movement Intensive, which takes place August 6th-11th! We can't wait to welcome 50 incredible dancers from all over the world to Las Vegas to groove and grow with us. Stay tuned for updates & information about our final showing.

Jenni Berthelot & Miami Dance Collective

Miami Dance Collective

All of us at chuthis. would like to congratulate the beautiful dancers of  Miami Dance Collective on their Spring Concert: Groundwork, performances this weekend! Company members of MDC performed Forming In,  a 10-minute long work from the repertoire of chuthis., last weekend. Peter and chuthis. company member Jenni Berthelot were both able to work with the dancers on this piece, and were highly impressed by their talent and maturity. We are grateful to company directors Marie-Louise Gaschler and Kristin Richards for nurturing their company dancers in this way—it is a mission that we believe in and wholeheartedly support!

chuthis. seeks Board Members

chuthis. is looking to expand our Board of Directors in an effort to grow our company—both within our Las Vegas community, and beyond. We are looking for both diversity and a genuine enthusiasm for chuthis. and our mission. If you or someone you know is interested in becoming involved with chuthis. in this capacity, please reach out to us at info@chuthis.net

—SUPPORT chuthis.—

chuthis. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. As a small, project-based dance company, fundraising is a constant, yet worthy challenge. Without the help of individuals like you, we would be unable to present our work to the public. It is often necessary to reach out to our communities for the financial support we need to take care of our artists.

We are still currently raising funds to cover costs incurred by our busy season of touring & performances. We would sincerely appreciate anything you can offer to help us reach our ambitious goal of $15,000 (part of which has already been met, thanks to several of you!) Every dollar of your donation will go directly toward the future production of high-quality, cutting-edge, thought-provoking contemporary dance, and will aid in redeeming the company's expenses.

If you are able to contribute, please visit our website to make a secure donation via PayPal. All donations are tax-deductible and eligible for most matching funds programs, and no amount is too small. We truly appreciate your continued support of the arts! Please email info@chuthis.net with any questions.
